Maine Coast Kayak has been paddling the high seas with big smiles from Wisacasset to Owls Head Harbor, making several stops at picturesque islands on the way. After a day at camp practicing our wet exits and rescue skills, we hit the water running, skipping past our destination and making it all the way to spectacle island for our initial island evening. This enthusiasm for pushing ourselves continued as we conquered two large crossings and 16nm on only our third day on the water (WOW). On our journey we paddled past a napping baby seal and found two red roses floating in the water near Pemaquid point. We spent fourth of July as a rest day on Harbor Island eating pancakes with chocolate chips, going on a scavenger hunt across the island (finding caves and fairy houses) and getting to see some spectacular fireworks. The weather has been phenomenal so far (knock on wood) sunny, warm, mostly following winds, and just enough fog to practice our navigation skills. The trippers report: Harry “how do you like them apples” Jeremy “I love them apples” Silvia “having the adventure of my life!” More resupplies happening this week we will post more as we receive news.
